    Daniel, born at Ebenezer, became a successful businessman in Savannah. Three of his children-

Catherine, Esther, and Sarah Ewen, all died on Oct 12, 1820 during the Savannah yellow fever

epidemic. Daniel died on the 20th of the same month, also from yellow fever. The 1820 epidemic

was one of the worst that Savannah was to see. The majority of town residents fled; of the 3000

who remained, over 700 died before the end of the year.
