John and Wilbroe (he was her second husband) sailed for New England in 1635, with 5 of their children, and other members of the Griggs family. They settled in Lynn MA, where they lived for about 5 years. In 1640, a group of a few dozen, including their minister Abraham Pierson (father of Abraham Jr, first President of Yale), emigrated to Long Island, where they had purchased land. They first settled in Manhasset, close to Manhattan, but were chased out by the Dutch and eventually settled at the eastern end of Long Island, in what became Southampton.  John’s occupation is unknown, but, since he was the only Southampton citizen licensed to sell distilled spirits, he was probably an inn-keeper.
