Richard was the son of Richard Harrison and Ellen Leonerd of West Kirby. With some of his children, he appears in Connecticut in 1644 as one of the purchases of Totoket (Branford).  All of his children were born in West Kirby,  and accompanied him (and probably his wife Margaret) to Connecticut. Several of the children, including Elizabeth, left Branford with their minister, Abraham Pierson, in 1666 and moved to New Jersey, where they were among the founders of Newark.
