    Thomas was a wealthy planter in Christ Church Parish, SC. He was the son of:

    John Barksdale, London merchant (b. London, 1658, d. Aug 1727, Christ Church Parish, SC) married (3 Feb 1680, St Dunstan’s,  London) Sarah Palmer (b. London, 1659, d. Mar 1710, Christ’s Church Parish, SC), , daughter of John and Margaret Porter of London. He arrived in Charleston in 1694/5 with his wife and children, possibly by way of Barbados, and established himself as a planter in Christ Church Parish, Berkeley County SC.  Children: Charles, Thomas, John, Mary. (John, married Anne, daughter of Thomas Hepworth of Charleston and Beaufort.) John was the son of:

    John Barksdale, grocer of London (b. c1625, d. after 1661), who was himself the son of 

    John Barksdale (d. 1629) of Newbury, Berks, UK and his wife Margaret. Children: William, Francis, John.
