William was a very successful merchant, real estate investor, and director of many companies,

including railroads, insurance companies, and canal companies. In 1853 he built Remshart Row, at

102-112 W. Jones St, which remained in the family until the 1960’s. After the death of his first

wife, Julia, he married Mrs. Rebecca Oliver in 1866.
